You could say we’re a bit obsessed with being environmentally friendly - and you’d be right! We have created Kabode from the ground up as an eco-friendly business. We want to be that brand that is known both for it’s luxurious, huggable, snuggable quality AND its eco credentials. Basically we’re trying to be the best on all sides, it's a tough job, but we’re here to make a jolly good go of it!

Committed to being carbon neutral by 2025

Those are some big words, and all around us brands are making similar promises. But actions speak louder than words, so we have already put the wheels in motion and started making some big moves toward this goal behind the scenes. 

We want to be totally transparent and take you along with us on this journey, as we figure out how to swim against the tide and achieve this in a world of fast fashion and mass production. So, we’re going to tell you exactly what our plans are and how we WILL get to this goal. 

Let’s break it down:

The maths

Firstly, we will be calculating the carbon footprint of each of our products. A carbon footprint is a measure of how many KG of CO2 are emitted in the production of an item. We have started work on this, and plan to share the numbers when we’ve figured them out. If all manufacturers shared this information it would help you to easily compare a major ‘unseen’ aspect of the ethicality of a product. 

Reduce

Once we have a firm handle on the numbers, we can start to reduce them. We already know which areas will be creating the most CO2 so we have started the groundwork on this already, and we are making long term changes in the following areas…

Materials

Our organic cotton is certified by GOTS, but we are putting elements in place to allow our whole supply chain to be GOTS certified. This is the Global Organic Textile Standard and we consider it the absolute gold standard, top of the class, best in show independent badge of honour for textile products. 

Manufacturing and transportation

We will be moving production closer to the UK to reduce the journeys our products have to make to get to your home. 

Product use

We make our products to last, we want them to be handed from child to child and loved over and over again. We will be looking for more ways to help consumers understand how best to care for their bedding in order to extend it’s life and reduce textile waste. 

End of life

We have already made all of our packaging recyclable, and minimised waste across production, but what about the products themselves? By moving to organic materials for threads and trims etc the bedding will be totally compostable and biodegradable so that when it’s time to say goodbye it won’t go to landfill. 

All of the plans above are our goals and resolutions going forward, and we’re excited to see the progress! As we reach milestones we’ll share them with you, so you can trust that we mean what we say, and you can celebrate with us as we shape this business in the way we have always wanted to. 

We will continue with the eco initiatives that are already at the core of our business - using organic cotton, using sustainable materials, recyclable packaging, donating to eco causes such as 1% For The Planet, supporting people and communities through our supply chain and our partnership with the Against Malaria Foundation. We’ve taken some good steps already, but we’re ready to take great strides and bring you with us!
